Content Editor
Content Editor
FORTIS INFORMATIKA d.o.o.
This Role Will Include
This role includes developmental and structural editing of B2B blog articles written in English. Your objective will be to review them and detect whether the subject matter expertise (SME) and the know-how of the content are on a high enough level.
The crucial quality of our content is high educational value and a thorough understanding of the subject matter. Our writers are trained to create well-researched articles and deliver expert-level content.
The content editor role aids writers in further upgrading their subject matter expertise by reviewing their articles and pointing out problems in that area. Our content needs to be factually correct, so you will be analyzing it for logical errors.
Since the main task of this role is to improve the quality of the content, that includes dissecting the content on micro and macro levels to check if everything makes sense, and detect flaws beyond grammar and spelling.
This content editor role doesn’t focus on fixing the content but on detecting problems with content accuracy, logic, subject matter expertise, and information organization.
In this role, you will be:
- Detecting where the arguments are too short and where the explanations should be more extensive
- Analyzing where content lacks cohesion. In other words, checking whether the content has a good flow with logically connected information and sentences
- Detecting problems with coherence in the articles. In other words, you’ll be checking if the content and its individual sections make sense as a whole
- Checking if writers have wandered off-topic and whether the information presented in the article is actually relevant to the article topic, subheadings, and the target audience
- Reviewing the overall consistency of the written information and if the content consistently speaks to the same audience
- Detecting sentences that don’t add any educational value to the story. In other words, removing filler and sentences that are too generic (fluff content)
- Identifying the flaws in logic and information architecture
- Detecting whether the industry terms and jargon are appropriately introduced, understood, explained, and used in the right context
- Detecting if the facts and statements are accurately presented and appropriately attributed
- Checking if individual article sections and paragraphs have a clear thesis and well-developed arguments that support that main thesis
- Detecting if writers repeat their thoughts and arguments, as that is often the sign that they haven’t understood the topic well
Overall, you will be performing a lot of content analysis. You will spend your days reading blog posts in Google Docs, reviewing them, flagging problems you detect, and leaving comments.
We’d like you to help us systemically increase the educational value of our written content and smooth out the root causes of any existing errors. You will also take part in writers’ education.
Once you become really good at detecting imperfections, you will start giving writers instructions on how to bring their writing to the next level.
Relevant experience is always welcome, but you don’t really need any official education or previous experience in this role exactly to excel in this job. We’ll provide you with a detailed education for this position, but we are nevertheless looking for top talent.
To find candidates who are a natural fit for this position, we will test your skills, which is why we have a selection process that consists of multiple steps. Such a process ensures an unbiased evaluation of candidates.
Bottom line, you don’t need school, experience, or references, but you do need to be the right fit and top talent for this role. If you would like to find out if you are the right person for the job, apply to this position and our team will review your application.
What This Role Isn't?
This role isn’t focused on classic editorial elements such as improving the language and proofreading. Other positions in Fortis are responsible for polishing the grammar and spelling to perfection, and we have a dedicated person for that part.
Your knowledge of written English definitely needs to be on a high level. Still, you won’t need to detect and correct language errors in the articles because that falls into the domain of another role.
Your role will focus more on developmental, structural editing, and other things that constitute quality content. Those are the above-mentioned informational accuracy & structure, fact-checking, educational value, and the know-how.
