From Solutions to Change: Amplifying the Impact of Youth, CSO Activists and Young Journalists in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Mediacentar Sarajevo, with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office through ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) and the Zivik Funding Programme, will implement over the next two years the project “From Solutions to Change: Amplifying the Impact of Youth, CSO Activists and Young Journalists in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to face challenges of a post-conflict society, where public discourse – particularly in the media – is often burdened by divisions, disinformation, and political pressure. Young journalists and civil society activists lack sufficient opportunities to strengthen their capacities and become credible actors in fostering dialogue, trust, and social cohesion.
The project addresses these challenges by empowering youth voices and promoting constructive narratives. Its focus is on developing journalism that goes beyond reactive, event-driven reporting, and instead promotes ethical, inclusive, and solutions-oriented storytelling that contributes to understanding rather than division.
Planned activities include:
• Capacity building for young journalists through training and mentoring, enhancing professional skills in ethical and solutions-oriented reporting.
• Collaborative labs where young journalists and activists co-create multimedia stories reflecting local challenges and offering constructive perspectives.
• Visibility and community engagement through participatory exhibitions and public events that foster dialogue and reflection on key social issues.
The project is implemented across several regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina – including Krajina, Herzegovina, and the north-east – with particular attention to communities still affected by conflict legacies, social divisions, and low levels of civic participation.
In the long term, the project contributes to strengthening community resilience against divisive narratives, improving the quality of media content, and creating sustainable platforms for dialogue and collaboration. By combining education, collaborative production, and public engagement, the project seeks to transform how young people, media, and communities interact and contribute to social change.
