Reporting on local issues

‘Reporting on local issues’ is the title of the training held from 8 to 10 March
in the Mediacentar Sarajevo. This was the first in a series of trainings for
journalists organised as part of the new phase of the VEZZA project.

The programme of the ‘Reporting on local issues’ training has relied on
practical work ranging from the preparation for the field work, to recording,
analysing, writing and editing radio stories. The participants worked on
concrete stories, under the mentorship of an experienced radio ant TV journalist
Aldin Arnautović.
The concrete newsroom work was the most useful way for the journalists, with
different professional experience and coming from different radio stations, to
use the three-day training to exchange experiences and learn new skills.
The training outline made in such a way so as to have all the participants
work on producing a radio story, whereby the Mediacentar became their ‘new
newsroom’ with the trainer who played the role of an editor - consultant.
The last day of the training was reserved for presentation of the stories,
out of which the training participants have chosen the best three stories.
The story about the work of the ‘Duga’ Association scored the highest number
of votes, the story on hotline services was placed second, and the story on the
campaign ‘‘Ne brže od života’’ was ranked third. The story about the ‘Duga’
Association was done by Zlatko Marinović (Radio Nes), who received a
symbolic money prize.
Training participants and the stories produced during the training are the
following:
1. Zlatko Marinović (Radio Nes, Banja Luka) – the ‘Duga’
Association
2. Jelena Kukrić (Radio Balkan, Banja Luka) - Hotline
3. Maja Đorđić (Radio Pan, Bijeljina) – Betting shops
4. Slađana Brajović (Radio Magic, Milići) - 8 March
5. Zlatko Fisher (Radio Slon, Tuzla) - Animals
6. Ljubiša Marković (Radio Bihać, Bihać) - Illegal construction
7. Vedran Mihojević (Radio Korona, Trebinje) - Ne brže od života
(Not faster than life)
8. Merima Husejnović (Student Radio eFM, Sarajevo) - Parking

As part of the VEZZA project, in-house trainings with journalists from BiH
youth radio and TV stations will be organised. The training sessions will be
organised in April within the media outlets where the journalists are employed.
Also, there will be a training organised on investigative reporting to take
place from 24 to 26 May at the Mediacentar Sarajevo.
This training was organised by the Centre for investigative reporting and
media education of the Mediacentar Sarajevo. The project has received
financial assistance from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation
(SDC).
