Internet and Freedom of Access to Information
The training participants will be acquainted with the basic elements of the Law on Freedom of Access to Information. Through a number of practical exercises, participants will be trained to fill out a request for access to information on their own and to submit it to the right institution. The training program covers the most important characteristics of online search engines and use of electronic resources for better coverage of issues for news stories. The training is designed for journalists from Bosnian-Herzegovinian print and broadcast media, partners of USAID Media.
Training for journalists on ‘The Law on Freedom of Access to Information and Online Search for Information’ will be held on November 27-29 at Mediacentar Sarajevo.
Participants will be acquainted with the basic elements of the Law on Freedom of Access to Information, how to write a request for access to information and its journey through the bureaucracy of the system.
Journalists will also get a cross-cut review of the implementation of the law in BiH and the region and will learn through numerous examples from practice how to best use the positive aspects of the law for objective media work.
During the last day of training, under the title ‘Online Search for Information,’ participants will be acquainted through practical work with strategies for the most efficient internet search using search engines and available databases. Participants will be acquainted with the basics of internet ethics and practical use of additional services for news stories (alert, discussion groups, forums, etc.).
The work methodology is based on theoretical and practical sessions with emphasis on practical exercises, examples from practice and technical literature. The main methods of work are analysis, discussion and practical work.
The training lecturers are: Amira Krehić, Director, Center for Freedom of Access to Information; and Dženana Alađuz, Director, Association for the Promotion of Information Science INFOHOUSE – BH.
The workshop is organized by USAID Media in cooperation with NetNovinar – Center for Investigative Reporting and Media Education (Founders: Mediacentar Sarajevo & Investigative Journalism Center, Zagreb).
