Venue of the workshop: Mediacentar Sarajevo (Kolodvorska 3, Sarajevo)
Why should I apply for the workshop: The program ”Analytical Reporting – Justice and Security in B-H” is a unique program organized by the Embassy of Great Britain in B-H in cooperation with the NetNovinar Training Center and it is designed for B-H journalists and editors with the aim of training them to offer the public a complete, objective and detailed picture of the situation in the areas of judiciary and security. The program will be implemented through four educational cycles for B-H journalists, each lasting three and a half months, and two workshops for editors of B-H media.
The role of journalists in informing the public on judiciary and security is of central importance on B-H’s European road. Journalists need to be better acquainted with these issues and also to have their editors’ support in reporting. In the two-day workshop, B-H editors will be acquainted with the structure of the program so that they can support journalists in their respective media outlets who attend or want to attend this unique program. During the two-day workshop, the editors themselves will also advance their capacity for analytical reporting on legal and security issues.
What will I learn?
• How to write an investigative story synopsis; goals and techniques of investigative reporting; how to find and check out sources; media legislation and its application while working on a story; what ethical dilemmas may appear during an investigation and writing a story and how to overcome them.• What is the role of B-H state judicial and security institutions and how they operate; structure of security systems in Bosnia-Herzegovina.• Advanced internet search techniques: “deep web” search; how to verify information via the web.

The workshop is adjusted to editors and their everyday newsroom obligations. In addition to lectures at Mediacentar, a visit is planned to the most important institutions in the legal and security sectors (Court of B-H, Court of B-H Registrar, State Protection and Security Agency) so that participants can learn about the institutions’ activities and how they operate.
