Online event: Stronger Trust = Stronger Media

Webinar
Balkan
Transitions and South East European Network for Professionalization of Media (SEENPM) invite you to an online event “Stronger Trust = Stronger Media” to be held on 3 March 2022 (Thursday) from 4 pm to 5:30 pm CET.

If you are a media representative - a journalist, manager, producer - you will get inspiration and practical tips on how to grow and engage your audience. If you are a citizen, consumer of news, join us and share your perspective on the way the media and journalists cover current events and let us know what would increase your trust in their work.

The corrosion of trust in journalism remains one of the greatest threats to open societies and democracies. The new media ecosystem undermines the traditional role of journalists as gatekeepers, while user-generated content saturates online spaces and obscures the need for accurate and balanced information. Now, media institutions are more distant from their audiences than ever before. To fight this we need stronger, trust-based relationships between media institutions, journalists, and their audiences. How can we give audiences more of a stake in what professional media outlets do? How can the media give them more of a voice and insight into how professional news content is produced?

Speakers:

Benjamin Toff, Senior Research Fellow, Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism; Lead researcher for Trust in News Project, University of Oxford

Brankica Petkovic, Researcher at the Peace Institute – Institute for Contemporary Social and Political Studies in Ljubljana, Slovenia, author of Resilience research series on hate speech and media trust in the Western Balkans and Turkey

The event will be held in English.
