Masterclass with Andrej Petrovski: OSINT Tools and Practices for Journalists

Journalism has always been about investigating to uncover the truth and provide relevant information to the public. With technological developments, journalists now have access to vast amounts of data that allow them to research topics more deeply and comprehensively. Among these, Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) is becoming an increasingly popular choice for journalists who want to conduct independent investigations.
In his masterclass, Andrej Petrovski, Director of Tech at SHARE Foundation, will talk about basic OSINT tools, metadata, the history of the internet, and archiving. Andrej holds an MSc degree in Digital Forensics and leads the Computer Emergency Response Team – SHARE CERT, helping journalists, media, and CSOs become more resilient in the digital environment, as well as providing legal and technical aid in cases of cyberattacks. He has authored numerous publications on Cybersecurity and Data Protection and has participated in recommending policies during Serbia's EU accession process (Chapters 23 and 24). He has also worked on issues related to Open Data, Copyright, and has researched internet phenomena and created multimedia content with a multidisciplinary team at SHARE Lab.
The masterclass will be held online on Friday, 13 September, 2024 at 10:00 CET, and is primarily intended for journalists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Albania.
